10-day time limit for 19 services at RLA

CHANDIGARH: The issuance of a new driving licence will take only 10 days as the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) has fixed a time frame for all services provided by the department to residents.

The issuance of a new driving licence will take only 10 days as the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) has fixed a time frame for all services provided by the department to residents.

The RLA is one of the important departments whose services will be notified by the Administration under the Right to Service (RTS) Act, approved by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore yesterday.

Nineteen services of the RLA will be made available to residents. As per the draft of the notification, the services which will be made available in 10 days include issuance of a new driving licence, addition of another class of vehicle to the driving licence, issuance of a conductor’s licence, renewal of the driving licence, issuance of an international driving licence, registration of new vehicles, issuance of a duplicate RC, transfer of ownership of vehicles and change of address in the RC within the state among others. The Deputy Commissioner’s office has also fixed a deadline for 39 services. As per the draft, conversion of leasehold property to freehold will take only 30 days.

Permission for a “shobha yatra” or a roadshow will be given in four days. The registration of a firm will take only a week’s time.

The MC has also fixed a time frame for 90 services. In the draft, the deadline for the services of the civic body has been fixed from one day to a maximum of 45 days.

The UT Administrator has approved 188 services, to be notified under the Act in the first phase. The designated officer will have to pay a penalty for deficiency in service without any reasonable cause, which can range from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000. The designated officer may also face disciplinary proceedings.
