JP Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, awarded degrees to 1,886 students at the PGI here on Saturday.

“Awarding degrees to 1,886 students was an examination for me, but a rare opportunity too,” said Nadda. The convocation went on for three hours and Nadda remained on toes for about two hours. The convocation was held at the PGI after a gap of three years.

He told the students that one’s own satisfaction is the real test for doing the best in life. Nadda also honoured 35 gold medalists. Total 92 silver medals and 95 bronze medals were also awarded to students from various specialities.

Prof Jagat Ram, Director, PGI, said: “The Department of Pediatrics inducted three new postdoctoral DM programmes in super-specialties of pediatrics — pediatric endocrinology, pediatric pulmonology and genetics.”

During the convocation PhD was awarded to 126 students; DM (medical super-specialties) to 253; MCh (surgical super-specialties) to 129; MD in the medical specialities to 719; MS in the surgical specialities to 251; MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) to 31; MHA (Master of Hospital Administration) to 21; MPH (Master of Public Health) to 51; MSc in biochemistry, medical biotechnology, radiodiagnosis, radiotherapy, virology, haematology and anatomy to 65 and BSc in paramedical courses to 240 students.
