Mohali, September 17

A total of 1.52 lakh children were administered polio drops during the three day Sub-National Immunisation Day (SNID) drive here.

On the final day of the drive, as many as 28,955 children were immunised against the virus.

Addressing the post-polio drive meeting of all Senior Medical Officers (SMO) of the district today, Mohali Civil Surgeon Dr Manjit Singh expressed satisfaction over the completion of the campaign.

He said the target was to administer drops of oral polio vaccine (OPV) to 1.45 lakh children below five years of age across the district. “We have crossed the set figure”, said the Civil Surgeon.

District Immunisation Officer Dr Veena Jarewal said if any child failed to receive vaccination due to some reason, he or she might be brought to the nearest health facility for immunisation.

She said a total of 1,208 teams, including 1,062 house-to-house teams, were deployed across the district. The teams included 100 mobile teams and 46 transit teams. As part of the vaccination campaign, health workers visited houses, brick kilns, slums and other areas. A total of 2,420 vaccinators and 122 supervisors were pressed into service, she added.
