Chandigarh, May 23

As MP Kirron Kher started getting a major lead during the counting of votes, the city BJP office, Kamalam, went into the celebration mode in the afternoon. The celebrations went on till late in the evening.

The office premises reverberated with dhol beats and bursting of crackers. Laddoos were distributed and workers danced to celebrate. Youths were seen bursting crackers outside the gate of the Kamalam.

Former Mayor Poonam Sharma, who had recently joined the BJP, was seen shaking a leg along with other BJP Mahila Morcha members. “We are very happy. We should now go to each street and voter and thank them even if it takes a few days,” she said.

While city BJYM president Gaurav Goel and another senior leader Amit Rana entered the party office raising slogans in favour of the BJP and PM Narendra Modi. The whole office complex was charged up with songs on “Modi” being played and people dancing and giving bytes to electronic media.

“I don’t have words to express what a terrific win it is. People have appreciated the policies of Modi ji and reposed faith in the leadership of party chief Amit Shah ji,” said Goel.

Known for differences, city BJP president Sanjay Tandon, MP Kirron Kher and former MP Satya Pal Jain came together to meet and thank party workers.

There was a mad rush for selfies with Kher. “This is the win of all party workers and I thank them all for their support,” she said.

Kher, who came out of her Sector 7 house around 5.45 pm, said, “I have been lying in the bed the whole day. Since the picture was to become clear by the evening, I just took rest.”

A smiling Kher later went to the party office and finally to the counting centre.

Attributing the credit of Kher’s win to the people of Chandigarh and party workers, Tandon said, “All party office-bearers and workers had been working day and night for the last two months to make this win possible. People have reposed faith in PM Narendra Modi’s policies. With this win, the responsibility of the BJP has increased further.”
