Dera Bassi, August 22

The Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana (SSBY) is getting an overwhelming response in Mohali district. As many as six patients have been admitted in government and private hospitals since the scheme was launched on August 20.

This was stated by Mohali Civil surgeon Dr Manjit Singh while he was in a Dera Bassi hospital to enquire about the well-being of three patients admitted under the scheme.

He said five patients had been admitted in government sub-divisional hospital in Dera Bassi, whereas one patient was admitted in Grecian Hospital in Mohali under the scheme. Three women patients — Surjit Kaur (65), Gian Kaur (50) and Parmjeet Kaur (23) — have been operated upon for gallbladder disease in Dera Bassi hospital. He said patients had to pay nothing for the treatment, otherwise it would have cost them around Rs 10,000 per operation.

He said as many as 1,16,760 families would be covered under the scheme in Mohali district. — OC
