A local court today acquitted the driver of a man who was arrested for impersonating a CBI officer in 2011. The court acquitted Jaswinder Singh. Accused Aman Kumar and Mukesh Puri were declared proclaimed offenders on May 9, 2014, and July 6, 2013, respectively, while the trial against Singh went on separately.

Singh was booked under Sections 419, 420, 171 and 34 of the IPC.

On December 18, 2011, the police registered a case against Aman Kumar, who was faking his identity as the ACP of the CBI, his “gunman” Mukesh Puri and his driver Jaswinder Singh. While Kumar was arrested from a hotel in Chandigarh, his two accomplices were arrested near Attawa Chowk. However, he was acquitted on Friday after the owner of the firm that Singh worked for recorded his statement in the court claiming that Singh was his personal driver. — TNS
