Tax trial run in May, June

With the legislative end of the GST rollout nearing completion, there will be a two-month trial run in May and June on the GST IT network that will enable transactions to check the authenticity and credibility of the system before it becomes operational from the tentatively scheduled date or go live date of July 1.

With the GST Bills being introduced in the Lok Sabha, the next milestone will be formulation of rules for GST for which the GST Council is scheduled to meet on March 31.

After that the fitment of various commodities in the tax slabs will be a major exercise. The expectation is that all this procedure should be completed by April 30 and in May and June, a trial run for GST is being targeted.

The rules and the rates are crucial for the industry which has to get going on the operational and administrative issues of GST.

The possible glitches in the system will have to be streamlined before hand and it is a part of the exercise to ensure preparedness before the go live date.

The government is also in partnership with the state governments undertaking an awareness campaign for the GST and training of officers at various levels has also commenced.
