Home-grown IT security firm Quick Heal Technologies is banking big on mobile security besides its traditional offering. The India mobile security market, pegged at over Rs 700 crore, is plagued by low awareness among the smartphone users. According to rough estimates, hardly 5-6% market is using security products.

India is one of the biggest and among the fastest growing smartphone markets in the world. According to global market research firm GfK, the overall smartphone demand in the country will hit 234 million units in 2017, an increase of 11% year-on-year (YoY). Also, smartphones are expected to account for 62% of all mobile phones’ sales in India in 2018.

“There is a big market for mobile security. Actually, people are not aware of it. We are sensitising customers about the mobile security, its use and its importance. We anticipate that in near future the mobile security market will achieve growth the way smartphone market is growing,” said Kailash Katkar, MD and CEO, Quick Heal Technologies.

He was in the city on the invitation of Chitkara University. The university has decided to confer Katkar with an honorary doctorate degree tomorrow for his contribution in the field of cyber security.

On being asked about the Central government’s focus on digital India, he said, “The government’s push for digitalisation will change the way we think and opportunities for companies engaged in providing cyber security will broaden. With Digital India, increasing online transactions and deployment of security solutions in enterprise segment and SME businesses will boost cyber security market in India.”

In domestic market, the company has 35% market share in retail segment and 8% in the SMB category.

The company provides security software products and solutions in India, Japan, Kenya, Dubai, and the US. It offers solutions under the brand names Quick Heal and Seqrite for desktop and laptop security, mobile/smartphone security, end-point security, gateway security and network security etc.
