Punjab & Sind Bank’s operating profit rises to Rs 353 crore in Q3

Punjab & Sind Bank has announced financial results for the quarter/nine-month period ended December 31, 2017. Total business of the bank increased from Rs 1,47,692 crore to Rs 1,60,882 crore, a growth of 8.93% (YoY). It has earned an operating profit of Rs 353 crore for the quarter ended December 2017, a growth of 27.44% (YoY). The bank has made provisions under NCLT-referred cases and provided depreciation on securities, as a result of which its net profit has decreased from Rs 77 crore to (-) Rs 258 crore (YoY). Deposits increased from Rs 89,119 crore to Rs 96,609 crore, registering a growth of 8.40% (YoY). Gross advances increased by 9.73% (YoY) and stood at Rs 64,273 crore as on December 31, 2017.  

Sarveshwar Foods to hit capital market with IPO

Sarveshwar Foods Ltd., engaged  in the business of processing and marketing of branded and unbranded basmati and non-basmati rice in domestic and international markets, plans to enter the capital market with an initial public offer of 64,67,200 equity shares of face value Rs 10 each for cash. The funds thus raised will part finance the working capital requirement; investment in subsidiary; meeting expenses to the offer; and general corporate purposes. The shares are proposed to be listed on the SME Platform of the NSE.

SMVDU researchers give evidence against Aryan invasion theory

A study published recently in reputed scientific journal 'Nature Scientific Reports' by the human genetics research group of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University has provided evidences based on genetics refuting the much acclaimed "Aryan invasion theory". The study has been supported by a grant to Dr Swarkar Sharma, coordinator, Human Genetics Research Group, by National Geographic Society, USA. The paper has received great appreciation worldwide and has been creating a buzz in the social media.

Azure Power, GNDU in pact for solar power project 

Azure Power, a solar power company, has signed a power purchase agreement with Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, for a period of 25 years under the Solar Energy Corporation of Indian (SECI) scheme. It will set up a grid connected roof-top solar photovoltaic system with 1.6 MW on the roof of the university through its own investment. Azure Power representative Vineet Saini and GNDU Registrar Dr Karanjit Singh Kahlon exchanged the documents for the agreement. 

Sunheart Ceramic holds 2nd edition of ‘Mega Tile Carnival’

Sunheart Ceramic recently organised the second edition of 'Mega Tile Carnival' in Goa. It was inaugurated by Vijai Sardesai, Minister of Town and Country Planning, Goa. Over 1,000 dealers from across the country participated in the event. The exhibition showcased new innovative product series of over 800 designs of 16 different sizes. 

Union Bank of India wins Golden Peacock Award 

Union Bank of India has won the Golden Peacock HR Excellence Award for the year 2017. The bank has won this award for the fourth time in a row. The award is instituted by the Institute of Directors, New Delhi. It was presented by former Chief Justice of India Justice MN Venkatachaliah, who is also the National Chairman, Institute of Directors, at a function held in Bengaluru recently. 

BSNL chief to chat live on social media on Feb 22

The Twitter Seva grievance redressal mechanism established by BSNL has proved to be a  boon for customers who continue to approach the operator for effective resolution of their grievances. In a series of regular interaction with its customers by BSNL CMD, the Punjab Circle customers will have a chance to raise their grievances, queries and can give suggestions by tweeting with #TalkTOBSNLCMD between 1500 and 1600 hours on February 22.

Over 1,000 participants took part in the 11 events titled business quiz, business plan, master chef competition, Punjabi folk dance, programming contest, web-page development, graphic design contest, CAD contest, robowar, engineering project exhibition and IOT challenge: Radiance 2018 in association with IIT Bombay. The event was inaugurated by S. Gursaran Singh, Chancellor, GNA University.

MMTC profit rises to Rs 232.96 crore

MMTC has declared its financial results for the nine months ended December 31, 2017. The company has achieved revenue of Rs 13,356 crore in the review period as against Rs 9,170 crore during the corresponding period previous year, registering a growth of 146% over the same period last year. Gross profit rose to Rs 232.96 crore as compared to Rs 172.66 crore during the corresponding period last year.

Rama Gopal takes over as Director (Refineries) at IOC

BV Rama Gopal has taken over as Director (Refineries) on the Board of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOC) with effect from February 12. Earlier, he was Executive Director (In charge) of the company's Panipat Refinery & Petrochemicals Complex. Gopal joined IndianOil in 1982 as a graduate engineer trainee, and has since worked at various refinery locations, including Haldia, Vadodara, Mathura and Panipat. His experience spans several specialised areas of the oil & gas sector like operations, technical services, production, planning and coordination and project implementation.

TiE organises ‘Startup Yatra’ to promote entrepreneurship

To promote startups and entrepreneurship in the region, The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Chandigarh organised a 'Startup Yatra' in association with the Punjab Government on February 16. Amina Baika, DGM (e-governance), Punjab Government, talked about the Punjab State Industrial and Business Development Policy 2017. Under the policy, the Punjab Government has facilitated 10,000+ startups in agro, lifesciences, food processing and many other industries with the support of TiE Chandigarh. IS Paul, MD, Drish Shoes; Alok Ramsisaria, CEO, Grazitti Interactive; Harvinder Mavi, founder, SouNear; Taranjeet Singh, founder, Agnext; and Ashutosh Tiwari, founder, Agronxt, were among those who spoke on the occasion.
