New Delhi, May 29

Facing stiff resistance, the Centre has been compelled to drop its move to get a proposal of lowering of employer’s contribution to EPF from the present 12% to 10% through its Central Board of Trustees of EPFO.

This is the perhaps for the first time that during the three years of its tenure the Narendra Modi government had to step back on its move.

The Central Board of Trustees of EPFO, which had included the matter in the agenda item as a proposal for consideration during its meeting on Saturday last in Pune, had to drop the issue in the face of upfront opposition from all representatives of the workers, employers and state governments. In effect, the proposal has been rejected.
