In addition to free land and cheaper power, the Maharashtra Government is wooing Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn with cashbacks on some taxes and duties paid by it, according to official sources.

Officials from Foxconn had a meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis earlier this week and were promised a number of concessions for setting up manufacturing facilities in the state.

Though the Maharashtra Government had signed an agreement with Foxconn nearly two years ago, the project is yet to get off the ground.

The state government officials did not specify what concessions have been promised to the Taiwanese contract manufacturer of high-end electronics such as iPhones and iPads. “These are still being discussed and a final decision will be taken shortly,” a state government official said.

Reports say Foxconn wants import duties on electronic equipment levied by the Central government to be reimbursed by the Maharashtra Government.
