The Group of Ministers (GoM) overseeing the disinvestment of Air India on Monday reviewed the prevailing situation for the first time after the deadline of presenting the EoI ended on May 31 with the government not receiving even a single bid for the debt-laden national carrier.

The Group headed by Arun Jaitley included Piyush Goyal, who has been temporarily given the charge of Finance Ministry, Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.

The government had sought a report from Ernst and Young, the advisers to the disinvestment, wanting it to list out the reasons for the failure to attract even a single bid for Air India. The meeting, chaired by Jaitley, took stock of the developments related to debt-laden Air India and discussed the way forward.
