New Delhi, April 19

Chairman of the 15th Finance Commission, NK Singh on Thursday said the fiscal needs of each state will be assessed individually and their special characteristics will be kept in view.

He made these remarks when a delegation from Tamil Nadu led by Deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam met the 15th Finance Commission. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Commission and put forward their view point regarding the Terms of Reference of the Commission.

Singh said a progressive state like Tamil Nadu which has contributed greatly to India’s prosperity would certainly receive the Commission’s careful consideration. The Commission’s visit for the state of Tamil Nadu was finalised in the September-end.

The delegation urged the Commission to balance the need for fiscal transfers to less-developed states while simultaneously meeting the growing aspirations and expectations of the people of the better performing states like Tamil Nadu.
