ARI Simulation to extend geographical reach

ARI Simulation is a global provider of simulation solutions across a broad range of industries, including marine, offshore, defence, naval, E&P and construction. It offers a range of simulator products for offshore drilling rigs, cranes, vessel handling, dynamic positioning systems, anchor handling, subsea support, ROVs and more. Shravan Rewari, Managing Director, ARI Simulation, talks about the company’s plans.

Q. How big is the simulator market in India? As there are very few Indian private sector companies in this space, what are the advantages that ARI brings to the table?

A. The global market for simulators is estimated to be more than $14 billion and the Indian market accounts for less than 5% of the market worldwide. Growth in the Indian simulator market can be largely attributed to use by the defence and civil industries. ARI has been a player in this industry for over two decades, bringing many advantages to the market, the foremost being the ability to customise and being flexible to the client demands. 

ARI Simulation is the only simulator company in India with a substantial international presence with products commissioned in Japan, UK, Americas, Scandinavia, South Korea, etc. ARI has more than 10 years of proven record of successful accomplishment with Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India/Indian Navy. All our products are developed fully in-house and built upon scalable and extensible technology platforms.

Q. With the government pushing for “Make in India”, have you been able to crack the global market? What percentage of your sales comes from exports?

A. Close to 75% of our sales comes from exports. Now, with “Make in India” and “Skill India” initiatives, the use of simulators in India is expected to grow and ARI would be in a good position to evolve as a benchmark in the Indian markets for its quality and international standards.

Q. Which types of simulators you have exported so far and which is your flagship product?

A. ARI Simulation has exported simulator solutions across all verticals in which we operate, such as defence, marine, offshore, sub-sea, naval, energy, construction and aviation. All our simulators have found acceptance and appreciation in the international markets. Our most popular products have been the Marine and Naval Bridge simulators. 

Q. Why are simulators becoming increasingly important? How are these useful to companies?

A. Simulators are cost effective and safe way to train personnel with a view to mitigating risk and increasing productivity. Today simulators are being used to train personnel across all industries where the job mandates a human-machine interface. 

Q. Apart from the existing markets that you operate in, which are the new markets you are looking at and why? What is your growth plan for the next four to five years?

A. Currently, we operate in industries such as defence, marine, offshore, sub-sea, naval, energy and construction. We will continue to increase our market share in these industries, along with expanding our capacity to offer simulator solution in industries such as process and power plants. Over the next couple of years, we will extend our geographical reach and use innovative ways for simulation deployment.
