A fan of Yuvraj Singh has set up a cricket stadium for cricket fans by spending Rs 25 lakh on his land worth Rs 5.5 crore in the city.
He uprooted his crop in more than 5 acres near the Bathinda-Mansa main road and opened Teshwar sports academy.
Budding young players will get coaching at the stadium. The academy has organised a cricket tournament in which around 300 players are participating.
As many as 20 teams have different sponsors and teams have been selected through auction, in the pattern of IPL.
The stadium has been given a fair look as four huge floodlights have installed for night matches and pitches have been prepared following suggestions of PCA experts.
MCB Commissioner Anil Kumar Garg and PCA official OD Sharma inaugurated the 25 over limited over night cricket tournament at the academy.
Gaganteshwar Singh Dhillon, director of the Teshwar sports academy, said he was a cricket lover and a great fan of Yuvraj Singh.
He said he was sad as a hockey stadium had come up at Rajindra College cricket ground and private school cricket grounds denied entry to players from outside. So, he decided to open the sports academy.
Gaganteshwar said they would start charging fee from the players coming for coaching in the coming days but it would be free for players from poor background but with good skills.
Apart from cricket, the academy also has horse riding arena and lawn tennis court.
This is probably the first sports academy in the region which has various sports facilities under one roof.
