Workshop on Indian politics under way on CUP campus

The MHRD-sponsored two-week National Workshop on Understanding Indian Politics and Economy in 21st Century, which is organised by the Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) at the Central University of Punjab, under PMMMNMTT, is in its last phase.

Commenced on May 27, the workshop will conclude on June 7. Its objective is to enhance the teaching potential of young faculty members.

More than 30 faculty members from different institutions representing various states are participating and acquiring in-depth knowledge related to Indian politics and economy.

During the last week, 23 sessions were taken by eminent speakers. Prof P Ramarao, Dean, Academic Affairs, CUP, delivered welcome address and Prof BS Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, gave inaugural address.

Discussions were held on several important topics related to Indian politics and economy, including post colonialism and after, changing Indian foreign policy since Independence, Rise of China’s Economy and its impact, gender politics, fake news narrative, neo-liberalism and social inequalities, approaches to national security, role of service sector in Indian economy and India’s quest to energy through nuclear mode.

Resource persons of these sessions were Prof Vinay Srivastava from Anthropological Survey of India, Prof PS Ramana from Punjabi University Regional Campus, Bathinda, Prof Muhammed Khalid from Panjab University, Chandigarh, Prof Ravi Inder from Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, Dr Suresh Babu from JNU, Prof DK Grover from PAU, Ludhiana, Prof Jasminder Dhillon from PU Regional Centre, Muktsar, Dr Angrej Singh from PU Regional Centre, Kauni, Dr Rubal Kanozia from CUP, Dr Bawa Singh from CUP, Prof Karori Singh from Rajasthan University, Prof BS Tiwana from Punjabi University, Patiala, Prof Gulshan Sachdeva from JNU, Prof Kuldeep Kaur from GNDU, Dr Rajesh Kumar from GNDU, Dr Puneet Pathak and Dr Vinod Arya from CUP. During each session, participants addressed their queries to resource persons and got satisfactory answers.

Prof VK Garg, Director, TLC, mentioned the workshop would surely achieve its objectives by enhancing teaching and learning ability of participants. Program organisers Dr Bawa Singh and Dr Naresh Singla said that apart from lecture sessions, the workshop schedule included visits to CUP library, CUP museum and other heritage sites of Bathinda to provide overall exposure to participants.
