Bathinda, February 21

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Punjab police was allegedly harassed by his own department in registering a case regarding the alleged molestation of his wife.

A case was finally registered at the Nehianwala police station four days after the incident, following the intervention by SSP Naveen Singla.

He said initially, he had to run from pillar to post to get the case registered, but then he approached the SSP and sought justice for himself.

On the basis of a complaint by his wife, a case has been registered against Balwinder Singh and his mother Sukhdev Kaur of Hariraipur village.

In her complaint, it has been alleged that Sukhdev Kaur had borrowed Rs 15,000 from her husband, but she was refusing to return the money even after six months.

On February 15, when the complainant visited Sukhdev Kaur’s house, she again declined to repay.

Later, when she came back, Sukhdev Kaur’s son Balwinder Singh came to her house in an inebriated state and molested her, she alleged.

She also accused him of threatening her. After some time, her mother also reached there and the duo abused her, but managed to escape when she shouted at them, she claimed.

She called the police control room, but no action was taken. The victim’s husband said the police initiated action only when he took up the matter at the SSP office.

A case under Sections 354-A, 355, 506 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against the duo. However, no arrest has been made so far.
