Bathinda, August 2

The XEN, Irrigation, Bathinda division, Gurjinder Singh Bahia, on Thursday said due to lesser rainfall in the catchment area of the Bhakra reservoir, the level of water in its dam is lower than that in the previous year.

At present, the level of water in the Bhakra dam is 65 feet lesser than that in the corresponding period last year due to which the Irrigation Department has rationed supply of water to various canals.

Due to inadequate water, the Bathinda branch providing water to the districts of Bathinda, Moga, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Faridkot and Barnala cannot be run at their full capacity. Keeping this in view, the Chief Engineer, Water Supply Department, Punjab, Chandigarh, has issued a rotation-wise schedule till October 23.

He said as per the rotation-wise schedule, the Bathinda branch would get proper water supply as per demand from September 6 to 13 wherein all the minors will have water running as per their capacity. From August 5 to 12 and September 22 to 29, the water supply will be lesser than the required while the remaining period the water supply will be lesser than all the previous days. For any further information or query, farmers can contact the department at 0164-2220158.
