Villages march ahead in campaign against drugs

BATHINDA: The district police’s efforts to bring drug addicts on the right track are yielding results as households at Bandi and Lelewala villages in Talwandi Sabo have started declaring themselves free from drugs and have even put up boards outside their houses notifying the same.

The district police’s efforts to bring drug addicts on the right track are yielding results as households at Bandi and Lelewala villages in Talwandi Sabo have started declaring themselves free from drugs and have even put up boards outside their houses notifying the same.

Giving this information, Bathinda SP Gurmeet Singh Sidhu said at Bandi and Lelewala, villagers had responded to fight against drugs.

Many residents have put up boards outside their houses declaring their households drug-free. Besides, the police have honoured 40 residents at Bandi for quitting drugs and another six were honoured at Lelewala for the same.

Similarly, Baba Ajit Singh Yuvak Sevavan Club and residents of Himmatpura village have put up boards declaring that any kind of drugs are strongly prohibited at the village.

They have gone a step ahead stating that if a person is found dealing in drugs, strict legal action would be taken against him or her. Also, people have been asked to give information about drug peddlers to members of club.

Meanwhile, the Nehianwali police held drug awareness seminar at Government Senior Secondary School, Mehma Sarja, where students were told about traffic rules and different mobile applications related to policing.
