Use biodegradable plastic bags, says Civil Surgeon

A meeting was conducted between officials of the district Health Department and members of the Chemists’ Union of Bathinda at the Civil Surgeon’s office in the Civil Hospital on Thursday.

The Civil Surgeon, Hari Narain Singh, gave information regarding the orders issued by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and instructed that non-biodegradable plastic bags must not be used.

Addressing a gathering, Civil Surgeon Hari Narain Singh said, “Eco-friendly and bio-degradable plastic bags must be used so that pollution generated via plastic bags could be contained.”

He added that the state Health Department had issued guidelines stating that owners of retail shops of medicines would be encouraged to ensure easy availability of schedule H and schedule H-1 (alporozam) medicines. These medicines must be given only on the prescription of registered medical practitioners and records must be kept for such medicines. The records of tuberclosis (TB) patients must be kept online as well.”

PPCB issues orders to this effect 

Civil Surgeon Hari Narain Singh has said that as per the orders issued by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), non-biodegradable plastic bags must not be used.
