Two held with Rs 1.67-lakh fake currency

The Mansa police have nabbed two youths and seized Rs 1.67 lakh fake currency, intoxicant medicines, illicit liquor and material to print fake currency from their possession in separate cases.

Mansa SSP Mandhir Singh said the CIA staff has arrested Anku of Barnala and Varinder Singh of Jagatgarh Bandara and seized Rs 1.67 lakh fake currency from them. Most of the fake currency is in Rs 2,000 notes.

The police have also seized a printer, with which the accused used to print fake currency, from their possession. They used to sell the fake currency to the people in the city.

He said the police were probing how much fake money had been circulated by them in the market. A case against them has been registered at the Jaurakian police station.

The SSP claimed that in another incident, the police team nabbed Rajpal Singh alias Pali, a resident of Atla Khurd village from near Bhagat Singh chowk in Mansa and seized 1,660 drug tablets and 25 bottles of intoxicants from him.

The SSP has also claimed to have recovered 15 mobile phones of various companies, which were stolen from a mobile shop at Bareta.

He said the police arrested Jagtar Singh and these phones had been recovered from him.
