A training workshop ahead of an MR (measles-rubella) vaccination drive was conducted by the district Health Department to take stock of preparatory measures for the mass campaign that will kick-start later this month.

Civil Surgeon Dr Hari Narayan Singh said during this campaign children between nine months and 15 years of age would be immunised. A target of covering 4.14 lakh children in the district had been fixed.

He said, “Measles is a viral disease that approximately claims the lives of 136 children every day in India and similarly rubella is a viral disease. If a pregnant woman is in the first three months of pregnancy, then the risk of congenital disease among child increases.”

Member Rapid Response Team World Health Organization Dr Neha Sharma said a special drive was launched by the government of India (measles and rubella vaccination) in an injection MR will be provided as an extra diet.”

She said around 8 crore children had been vaccinated in three phases. The World Health Organization has recognised MR vaccine as safe and already 150 countries around the world were already using this vaccine.
