Thieves strike at house in Civil Lines area

BATHINDA: Thieves struck at a house located in the posh Civil Lines area and decamped with cash, jewellery and other items worth Rs3 lakh. The occupants of the house came to know about the theft when they returned around 11 am on Sunday.

Thieves struck at a house located in the posh Civil Lines area and decamped with cash, jewellery and other items worth Rs3 lakh.

The occupants of the house came to know about the theft when they returned around 11 am on Sunday.

The owner of the house, Harvinder Singh Bhasin, along with his family members, had gone to attend the wedding function of their relative in Jalandhar for three days on February 8. In their absence, thieves barged into the house and took away the jewellery and the cash in the house.

Bhasin said “We came back around 11 am on Sunday. We were shocked to see that the back door of the house was partially opened and an LCD in the room was missing. The lock of the back door was found broken. When we returned, we found that the entire house was ransacked. We checked all cupboards and almirahs. Clothes and other goods were strewn all over. The thieves had opened the lock of all almirahs and took away about Rs1.57 lakh and 100 Canadian dollors , along with a camera and jellwery.”

After getting information, Harbans Singh, SHO of the Civil Lines police station, reached the spot and inspected the crime scene. Forensic experts were also called in to collect fingerprints from the house.

Following the statement of Harvinder Singh, the police registered a case against unidentified persons and initiated inquest proceedings.
