Bathinda, January 19

Tension gripped Bhai Bakhtaur village following the suicide by a student yesterday.

As per reports, Gurpreet Singh, a student of Class IX studying at a government school, was in love with another girl of the same school.

When the family members of the girl came to know about the love affair, they took the matter with the school authorities.

The authorities called up the boy in the presence of village sarpanch, school chairman and others. The girl’s family demanded that the boy should be expelled from the school.

The boy, scared of the threats over his expulsion, went towards the Bathinda-Delhi railway line and jumped in front of a goods train.

The boy’s family members, who belong to the Dalit community, today staged a protest outside the school and also thrashed a school teacher and one of the family members of the girl.

Heavy police force was deployed and the area DSP reached the spot to pacify both parties.

A case was registered against SAD sarpanch Charanjit Singh, school chairman Pal Singh Pali, girl’s mother Paramjit Kaur and school teacher Sanjeev Kumar.

Police officials at the Maur police station said a case was registered by the GRP, who were enquiring into the matter.
