Malout, October 17

Depressed over being childless, a man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence at Jhorar village near here.

‘Tantrik’ angle is being suspected as some slip, mentioning things used to perform some religious ceremony, was found from the clothes of the deceased, said sources.

The deceased, Som Singh alias Sagar, was working at a dairy farm at the village. He was living with his wife and father, who retired as a beldar.

Sources said Som had married about two years ago. His wife Amandeep Kaur had gone to her parental house when he took such an extreme step.

The incident came to light when someone from the dairy came to his residence this morning and knocked the door.

Sources said the deceased had even written his name in blood on his room’s door. “Further, some religious articles were found strewn in another room. Some silver ornaments have also been found from the pocket of the deceased,” said sources.

They claimed that the deceased was not having any financial problem as his father was getting pension.

Meanwhile, Amandeep Kaur has stated to the police that her husband was upset as they didn’t have any child.

“I spoken to my husband on Tuesday to bring me back home, but he told me that his father was unwell,” she informed the police.

The Malout Sadar police have started inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC in this regard.

Sources said when the police team reached the spot, the deceased’s knees were reportedly found touching the bed.
