Talwandi Sabo zone emerge overall champs in athletics meet

BATHINDA: The district-level school athletics meet concluded on high note at the Multipurpose Sports Stadium here on Saturday. The Talwandi Sabo zone won the overall trophy by getting 74 points, followed by Bathinda-2 zone which remained at the second position with 56 points.

The district-level school athletics meet concluded on high note at the Multipurpose Sports Stadium here on Saturday.

The Talwandi Sabo zone won the overall trophy by getting 74 points, followed by Bathinda-2 zone which remained at the second position with 56 points.

In the U-19 (boys) category, Mehakdeep Singh was adjudged the best athlete. In the girls’ category, Ishu of Ballianwali was declared the best athlete.

In the U-17 (boys) category, Gurpreet of Talwandi Sabo was declared the best athlete. In the girls’ category, Jyoti of Bathinda was declared the best athlete.

In U-14, Happy Singh and Sharandeep Kaur were declared as best athletes in the boys and girls categories, respectively.

On the last day of the games on Saturday, various competitions were held. The results of the matches played today were: in the U-19 category cross country race (boys), Bathinda 2 zone bagged the first position and Bhucho zone second.

In 400 m race (boys), Sarabjeet Singh of Bathinda got the first, Manpreet Singh of Teona Pujaria second and Sujeet Singh of Rampura bagged third position. In the girls’ category, Kulvir Kaur of Sekhu got first, Kamalpreet Kaur of Malkana second and Shinder Kaur of Sekhu got third position. In high jump (boys), Gurtej Singh of Bathinda won the first, Goldenpreet Singh second and Manjinder Singh of Bhairupa won third position.

In the U-17 category 400m race hurdles (boys) event, Khushpreet Singh of Malkana got first, Arshdeep Singh of Gillpati second and Akashpreet Singh of Sant Fateh bagged third position. In the girls’ category, Ramandeep Kaur of Bhai Rupa got first, Kulwinder Kaur of Malkana second and Lakshmi Kaur of Sekhu bagged third position.

In high jump (boys), Sukhmanjit Singh of Balluana won the first, Gagandeep Singh of Teona second and Gursanjosh Singh of Bathinda won third position. In the girls’ category, Sukhdeep Kaur of Jeeda won first, Paramjit Kaur of Chak Heera Singhwala second and Veerdeep Kaur of Bathinda won third position.

In the pole vault event (boys), Praveen Singh of Malkana won the first and Gagandeep Singh of Teona Pujaria won second position.
