Bathinda, July 17

Residents of Bathinda city and its adjoining areas heaved a sigh of relief as the city experienced a sudden downpour in the evening. Through out the day, the region had been reeling under extremely hot and humid weather conditions.

Although the day started on a sunny note, the weather showcased its varied moods today as it turned from hot to pleasant and then from humid to pleasant again. While the residents of Bathinda and its adjoining areas woke up to a hot and humid morning, the evening brought some respite. The sun shone bright through the day but light to medium rainfall in the region caught the commuters unawares in the evening.

The bright sunshine till the afternoon notwithstanding, the cloud cover began to increase after 2 pm and the sun continued to play hide and seek, thereby dashing the hopes of the city dwellers of experiencing a downpour.

Their wishes were however granted in the evening when the skies opened up for a while. However, the downpour didn’t last for long and was replaced by a drizzle.

As per the data procured from the Agri-met Department of the Punjab Agricultural University’s (PAU) regional centre in Bathinda, the maximum temperature before the evening downpour was recorded at 36 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature on Monday was recorded at 27.6 degree Celsius. The relative humidity was quite high in the morning hours and was recorded at 83 per cent but fell a little by the afternoon to be recorded at 56 per cent.

According to the weather forecast released by the Met centre, the region may not not receive much rainfall over the week.

As per the weather forecast released by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for the next six days for the region, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 35 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature around 27 degree Celsius. The IMD has also predicted generally cloudy sky with a possibility of light rain in the city for the next two days.
