Bathinda, August 17

Members of the Naujawan Bharat Sabha and Punjab Students Union (Shaheed Randhawa) today met the Deputy Commissioner and submitted him a memorandum of demands addressed to the state government.

Questioning the government over the party’s promise of providing a government job to one person in each family, the students demanded that the promise be implemented in letter and in spirit.

“Before the elections, all leaders of the Congress used to uphold the agenda of the party for the elections. They promised that ending unemployment in the state was the primary concern of the party and the government would provide a government job to one member of every family. Where are those jobs?” they asked.

They said the Congress had promised that the unemployed youth would also be given unemployment allowance of Rs 2,500 per month but the scheme is yet to see the light of day.

Through their memorandum, the student unions requested Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to look into their demands and work towards fulfilling the promises that his party had made to the people.
