Members of the Punjab Students Union (PSU) of Govt Rajindra College led by Sangeeta Rani on Monday took out a protest march, seeking justice for the minor girl who was brutally raped and murdered in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The protesters raised slogans against the BJP-led Union government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

They also accused the BJP government of Uttar Pradesh of going soft in the Unnao rape case in which the ruling party’s own MLA is allegedly involved.

They lamented that the political parties had started giving communal tinge to the Kathua rape case instead of ensuring that strict action was taken against the accused.

Sangeeta Rani said, “On the one hand, the government is emphasising on the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’ drive while on the other, crime against women are spiraling across the country. Moreover, BJP ministers were seen siding with the accused in Kathua. We demand justice for the minor girl and stringent punishment for the accused.”

Mandeep Singh, a student, asked, “The Kathua incident had taken place in January but the matter came to the notice of the administration and judiciary in April. What is the reason behind it?

“We demand justice for the minor girl and the accused should be hanged publicly, including the juvenile, otherwise we would intensify the stir,” she said.
