Three MBA students — Navneet Kaur Brar, Tanu Shree and Rinky — of the Baba Farid Group of Colleges (BFGI) were placed with Lavya Associates during a training-cum-placement drive held recently. Lavya Associates acts as a gateway to provide a wide range of recruitment and selection services to companies. It has a dedicated team of professional consultants, which offers top of the global executive recruitment and selection services. The recruitment process included an extempore followed by a written test and personal interview. The panel asked technical questions from various fields such as human resources, marketing and finance. After the last round of the interview, the panel selected three students of the BFGI. Dr Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, chairman, BFGI, congratulated the students as well as the faculty members. “This has become possible due to our continuous focus on grooming of students with practical approach in teaching methodologies. To sharpen the skills of the students, we primarily focus on organising seminars, personality development and communication skills programmes. Besides, regular industrial visits and guest lectures are also organised from time to time,” he added. 

Educational tour

Final-year students of BSc (Agriculture), Guru Kashi University (GKU), visited the National Centre of Excellence in Horticulture recently. The centre is situated at Mangeana in Haryana, where the Indo-Israel project on vegetable cultivation is going on. Giving details about the tour, Dr Daljeet Singh, head of vegetable science department, said the students’ visit was arranged under the Rural Area Work Experience (RAWE) programme. The students interacted with scientists of the centre and asked questions from them. The director of the Indo-Israel project, Dr AS Punnia, welcomed the students and explained the facilities of virus-free vegetable production, hybrid-seed production, Hi-tech vegetable production under protected structures — net house, polly net house, screen house and polly tunnel. The students were told how vegetable crops, especially cucurbits, were propagated by using grafting techniques. Dr AS Sidhu, Dean, College of Agriculture, said organsing trips to institutes and laboratories with the state-of-the-art facilities were a regular feature of the university.  The Vice-Chancellor said visiting such institutions proves to be beneficial for the students. Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Registrar, GKU, said the students were provided hands-on-learning experiences of advanced technology and more such visits would also be organised in the coming days. 

One-day workshop 

The technical committee of the Shri Sanatan Dharma Women’s Institute of Technology (SSDWIT) organised a one-day workshop on “Extended Markup Language (XML)” for MCA-I students on the college premises. The aim of workshop was to provide practical knowledge of XML to students. Representatives of Skycon Technologies, Bathinda, interacted with the students during the workshop. It was organised under the guidance of president of the college Somnath Baghla, secretary Ajay Gupta, administrative secretary Vikas Kumar Garg and college principal Manisha Bhatnagar.  Faculty members of the department Ekta and Vibha were also present on the occasion. 

Annual concert

Gems Public School, Bathinda, organised its first annual concert “Live Laugh Love” on its premises recently. The annual concert also marked the grand finale of family weekend carnival. Students of the school showcased their talent at the function. The function was presided over by school principal Anju Nagpal. The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and was followed by cultural performances presented by the students. The performances given by them received appreciations from the audience. The vote of thanks was proposed by head boy Ansh Nagpal and head girl Jasmeen Kaur. The event ended with a rendition of the National Anthem.  — TNS
