Speed up lifting: DC to agencies

Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra on Friday directed procurement agencies to speed up lifting to avoid a glut-like situation at grain markets in the district.

During his visit to the grain markets in Kotshamir, Kotbakhtu, Kotfatta and others, he listened to the problems being faced by farmers. He also took stock of procurement and lifting. Besides, he also inspected the godowns of various procurement agencies.

While talking to farmers and arhtiyas, he assured them that the district administration had made all requisite arrangements for procurement of the yield. He also stated that the district Food and Civil Supplies Department and agencies had been instructed to make sure that the procured wheat was lifted in time to avoid any problem.

The DC also appealed to farmers to bring only dried wheat with low moisture content to the market so that they can get good price for their yield.

He elaborated that as per the official data, of the 3,83,496 tonnes of wheat that had reached the Bathinda grain markets, 3,21,052 tonnes had been procured.

Till April 19, Pungrain has procured 72,459 tonnes of wheat, FCI has procured 6,115 tonnes, Markfed 78,676 tonnes, Punsup 64,650 tonnes, Punjab warehouse 53,507, Punjab Agro 37,880 and private buyers have procured 10,015 tonnes of wheat.
