Bathinda, December 3

Yashveer Goyal, a hearing and speech impaired youth of the city, was conferred a national award in the ‘Role model’ category during a national-level function organised at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi by the Department of Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice, GoI. The award was presented to him by Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu, who was the chief guest.

The event was organised to mark the ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’. Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot also presided over the function. The National Awards for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities are conferred in 14 different categories.

Yashveer was given the national award for his outstanding achievements in the field of education, sports, information technology, photography and others as by virtue of these achievements, he became a role model for people with disability.

Elated over the achievement of his son, Yashveer’s father Chander Parkash, while talking to Bathinda Tribune during a telephonic conversation, said: “As a parent, we feel that every parent of such special children must get an opportunity in their lifetime to see their wards excelling in various fields and getting recognition through such awards. We dedicate this award to Lord Hanuman and Guru Nanak Dev. The cash prize given to our son would be spent on the welfare of differently abled people.”

Goyal has several medals to his credit in different sports events, including badminton and chess, besides he was felicitated for winning medals in other creative pursuits. Following his twin medals in the state badminton championship held earlier this year, the 20-year-old youth was selected for the state badminton team that would participate in the national championship for the deaf to be held in Gurugram in January 2020. Goyal received the achievement award in the Global IT Challenge for Youths, held in Hanoi, Vietnam, in 2017. He also lifted the overall trophy at the National IT Championship for Youths with Disability held at the NIT, Kurukshetra, in 2017.
