Barnala, July 4

To make people aware of the ill-effects of drugs under the Drug Abuse Prevention Officer (DAPO) programme, the district administration in Barnala organised programmes in several villages.

Deputy Commissioner Dharam Pal Gupta along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harjit Singh and other officials visited Kot Duna, Pandher and Aspal Kalan villages and urged the residents to unite against drugs.

The DC said the district administration, following the directions of Punjab Government, has launched a special drive at the village level to sensitise the common people about drugs and their ill-effects. He added that under the drive, it had been planned to cover all the villages in the district and the main aim was to educate and alert the common man against drugs and motivate them to provide information about addicts and the drug peddlers to the administration to help formulate an action plan.

“For the proper treatment of an addict, their family members and friends should cooperate as he needs special care to get rid of drugs. The state government has also been providing free of cost treatment to the drug addicts,” the DC said.

SSP Harjit Singh also urged the village residents to stay away from drugs and said once a person starts taking drugs, he gets hooked to it. The SSP assured the villagers that drug addicts or their families would not be harassed in case the addict wants to get treated for addiction.

ADC Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Himanshu Gupta, Assistant Commissioner (Training) Pavitar Singh, DDPO Sanjeev Kumar, Assistant Director, Youth Services, Vijay Bhaskar, BDPO Neeru Garg, Dhanaula SHO Naib Singh, besides other officials, were also present.
