Six penalised for violating tobacco norms

BATHINDA: The tobacco control cell of the District Health Department carried out a check and issued challans to those found violating the tobacco norms.

The tobacco control cell of the District Health Department carried out a check and issued challans to those found violating the tobacco norms.

The check was conducted at tobacco shops at the Mansa road. An amount of Rs 400 was collected as penalty from the violators.

Officials of the Health Department also spread awareness regarding the harmful effects of tobacco and smoking.

Assistant unit officer, tobacco control cell, Nachhattar Singh, said, “All tobacco products are harmful. No tobacco product is safe in any form. Smoking is as harmful as any other tobacco product. Exposure to passive smoking for a long duration can also have harmful effects.”

He said tobacco contains dangerous substance called nicotine that prompts a person to have it again and again. Use of tobacco can cause chest infection, heart diseases and mouth and lung cancer.
