Bathinda, March 16

New Delhi-Bathinda Shatabdi Express has been extended to Ferozepur. Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has given his approval to extending 12047/12048 Delhi-Bathinda Shatabdi Express to the Ferozepur Cantonment railway station from July 10.

Even the experimental stoppage of 14887/14888 Kalka-Barmer express at Bhucho station has also been granted.

The days and timing of the train has also been changed. As per the new time table, the Shatabdi Express will ply on two days — Monday and Friday. It will leave Ferozepur at 4.00 am and it will leave Delhi at 4.20 am.

At present, this train is plying on Monday and Saturday. It departs from New Delhi at 9 am and it leaves for Delhi at 4.15 pm from Bathinda.

Along with the extension, the train has also been given three additional stoppages at Tohana, Kotkapura and Faridkot.

The New Delhi-Bathinda Shatabdi Express is causing a loss to the Railway Department and has been getting a lukewarm response from the passengers.

For plying this train from Bathinda to Delhi, the department has put two generator cables, which cost around Rs 80,000 per single trip.

Union Cabinet Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal thanked the Union Railway Minister and said it was her earnest desire to see these long-pending demands being fulfilled. — TNS
