Senior officials listen to grievances of rly employees

BATHINDA: Divisional Personal Officer (DPO) of the Northern Railways Gian Mehta today visited the Bathinda railway station to redress the grievances of railway employees.

Divisional Personal Officer (DPO) of the Northern Railways Gian Mehta today visited the Bathinda railway station to redress the grievances of railway employees.

During his visit, many employees from various departments apprise him of their complaints about the pay scale, working schedule and their promotions.

While listening to the problems, the DPO also made them aware of their rights and responsibilities.

Talking to Bathinda Tribune, Mehta said, “I have received a number of complaints regarding variations in the salaries of employees working on the same designation. Besides, some loco pilots also informed about their problems. They said their seniority level was being overlooked by the higher authorities during their promotion.”

Though the DPO returned to the head office around 1:30 pm, Welfare Inspector Shyam Lal stayed at the city railway station and made a list of queries of the. The Railway Chief Engineer also visited the city railway station to inspect the railway tracks. During his inspection, he directed the authorities to appoint gatekeepers at every unmanned railway crossings.

There are 20 unmanned railway crossings on the Bathinda to Sri Ganganagar route.

A senior railway officer, who did not wish to be quoted, said, “We have already appointed gatekeepers of an outsourcing company at every unmanned railway crossings. Besides, the Chief Engineer has directed us to install cemented tiles on railway tracks in place of substandard wooden tiles to ensure the safety of passengers.”
