Security has been intensified following Intelligence Bureau (IB) alert in the city. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Naveen Singla, along with an anti-terrorist squad, anti-sabotage team and sniffer dogs conducted a check at the railway station.
Apart from this, police teams have been deployed at various chowks and public places in the city.
The entire reserve police force has been put on work to keep a check on anti-social elements.
The police are keeping a close check at the bus stand and the railway station with the help of sniffer dogs and metal detectors.
Naveen Singla visited various parts of the city and checked the security arrangements.
Later, he reached the city railway station where he himself checked identity cards and bags of passengers who were sitting at the platform.
He also went to the Railway Police Force (RPF) office and told officials to thoroughly check the station with the help of Punjab Police officials.
While talking to mediapersons, SSP Singla said it was a routine check and security had been intensified due to the Eid festival.
He said SHOs had been directed to intensify patrolling in the city and even a large number of police personnel have been deployed. He refuted that no threat letter from any terror outfit had been issued.
In view of the security alert, the police have set up check-points in other areas of the city as well.
The SHOs of police stations are heading patrolling in their respective areas. They, along with the traffic police, are checking vehicles and penalising violators.
Police sources claimed the Intelligence Bureau (IB) had issued an alert on terror threat across the state.
According to sources, terrorist outfit LeT had issued a letter undersigned by the area commander of the outfit based in Jammu and Kashmir to the Northern Railways, New Delhi, recently.
The outfit has mentioned railway stations located in Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in the letter.
