Bathinda, February 20

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sakshi Sahwney today convened a meeting to review the functioning of the Association for Smiles, Happiness and Aspirations (ASHA) project.

Sahwney said under the project, the focus must be on the underprivileged children living in the slum areas of the district.

Addressing the officers present during the meeting, the SDM said several NGOs had shown their interest in building the ‘wall of education’ at 171 anganwari centres in the district.

Elaborating on the wall of education, she said one wall at the centre would be developed as the ‘wall of education’, which would have Punjabi alphabets, counting and basic facts of other subjects written on it.

She said the work pertaining to the development of walls of education would begin within a week.

The SDM also visited the evening schools, which are teaching underprivileged children, as part of the project.

She visited the school run by Appu Society and the hospital run by Goodwill Society.

As part of the project, anganwari workers were also apprised of the project and they were urged to do their best to make the campaign successful.

The SDM further said as part of the ASHA project, apart from developing anganwari centres, Aadhaar cards of homeless and unattended children were also being made and as many as 186 children had already been registered for the same.

She urged the city-based NGOs to make list of such children available with the office.
