Bathinda, January 12

Arguing that this was the most crucial month when the teachers were required to be in schools to help the students revise their curriculum ahead of the annual examinations scheduled to be held in February end and March, teachers of various subjects today demanded that the week-long training camp being held in the district be scrapped.

The teachers, who had gone to the in-service training centre located on Mall Road here submitted a memorandum to the principal of the centre, Dr Amajit Kaur Kotfatta.

They have demanded that such camps must be held before December so as not to disturb classes in the first quarter of the year.

The teachers also argued that due to election-related duties, several teachers were already engaged in non-academic works.

Responding to the request made by the teachers, Kotfatta said the camps were being held across the state as per the orders received from the Education Department.

However, she assured the teachers that from the next academic session onwards, their suggestions pertaining to the schedule of the training camps would be considered.

The training camps are being organised at five centres in the city and will continue till January 17.

As per the orders of the Education Department, the teachers teaching students of Classes VI to X are required to attend these camps.
