Schools to celebrate birth anniv of Dhyan Chand

FARIDKOT: To celebrate the birthday of India’s hockey wizard, Dhyan Chand, in a big way this time, the School Education Department has announced to conduct a marathon in all schools in the state on August 29.

To celebrate the birthday of India’s hockey wizard, Dhyan Chand, in a big way this time, the School Education Department has announced to conduct a marathon in all schools in the state on August 29.

In honour of Dhyan Chand, August 29 is also celebrated as National Sports Day, when various sporting honours are bestowed on athletes of the country.

After the marathon, the schools have been asked to conduct sports competition of students in different games and there should be promotion of the traditional games in these competitions wherein every student needs to participate, read the letter sent to all district education officers on Thursday.

To promote sports activities at the district level, the assistant education officer (sports) in every district has been asked to identify two hockey teams in their respective districts, name these teams after two leading national players and inform the department about it before August 23 so that a state-level competition among these team be held on August 28.

Known for his sublime goal-scoring feats and extraordinary ball control, Dhyan Chand is regarded as the greatest field hockey player of all time and his birthday should be celebrated in a big way in all schools in the state to inspire the students, the letter further reads.
