Rs 10.25 lakh for martyr’s family

BATHINDA: Power Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar and Advisor to Chief Minister Lt General (retd) TS Shergil paid obeisance at the bhog ceremony of martyr sepoy Sukhwinder Singh, who was killed in Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir a few days ago, at Hakamsinghwala village on Sunday.

Power Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar and Advisor to Chief Minister Lt General (retd) TS Shergil paid obeisance at the bhog ceremony of martyr sepoy Sukhwinder Singh, who was killed in Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir a few days ago, at Hakamsinghwala village on Sunday.

Both handed over a cheque for Rs 10.25 lakh to his parents. It included Rs 5 lakh given as compensation and Rs 5.25 lakh given for a plot.

Kangar and Shergill assured the family that the state government would stand by them as their son had sacrificed his life for the country.

Kangar also announced that the name of the school at the village would be named after Sukhwinder Singh.

Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra was also present at the ceremony. Subedar Bhupinder Singh, who came from 5 Sikh Regiment, also gave Rs 30,000 to the family. — TNS
