Bathinda, October 21

The Railway Police Force (RPF) will not have the right to check tickets on moving trains or platforms as only travelling ticket examiner (TTE) will do this job.

The Railways has taken this decision after a video went viral in which an ASI of the RPF was seen taking money from passengers in a train’s general coach.

The Ministry of Railways has issued instructions in which it is made clear that RPF personnel have no right to check the tickets.

Only the authorised ticketing staff will have the power to penalise the passengers traveling without ticket.

If any policeman insists on checking a passenger’s ticket or threatens him, he can complain on 011-23382209 to Dharmendra Kumar, Director General, RPF.

In a letter received by railway authorities from the Director General, it is stated that RPF personnel will not be involved in ticket checking drives and chasing passengers for this purpose on moving trains and on platforms as it may create panic among passengers, leading to serious incidents.

Any violation of this order shall be viewed seriously and supervisory officers will be held liable for mishaps on this account, he added. Only during police action like magistrate raids, the railway police can help in checking tickets.
