Bathinda, December 6

Members of the Revenue Patwar Union continued their protest on the Old Tehsil premises over their demands. The strike of the Revenue Department employees entered its 16th day on Thursday.

The protesters gathered at the venue and raised slogans against the state government over non-fulfilment of demands.

The protesters alleged that police officials were interfering in their work and registering cases against patwaris, causing them great inconvenience.

Addressing the protesters, Gurtej Singh Pakka, general secretary, Revenue Patwar Union, said, “Despite the fact that there are clear guidelines by the DGP, Punjab, directing that without a proper probe in any matter related to the Revenue Department, cases should not be registered against patwaris, police officials are interfering in our work.”

Pakka said, “We have brought the matter to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner, but our issues have not been addressed till now.”

The general secretary said, “Six posts of kanungo have been lying vacant for the past one year. A patwari has been officiating on these posts while kanungos have not been appointed. Patwaris didn’t have the required furniture in their offices. There is no work station for patwaris in the Bathinda tehsil.” — TNS
