Malout, November 14

Six Delhi residents allegedly duped a retired Central Government employee of Rs 18.37 lakh by promising him to double the amount within short time.

The Malout (City) police have booked Aditya Verma, Rastogi, Anirudhi Bhattacharya and three unidentified persons under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC.

Talking to Bathinda Tribune, 61-year-old Ramesh Kumar, resident of Ward Number 7 here, said, “I got a phone call from Aditya Verma some time ago. He spoke about my life insurance policy by giving all genuine details. Then he befooled me to invest more money by giving assurance to double it within short time. Thereafter, I got phone calls of some more persons. They too introduced themselves as employees of banks and insurance companies.”

“I deposited the amount in the bank accounts given by them in five-six months. These accounts were of some trading companies. However, later I realised that they had cheated me. I have lodged a complaint with the police. This was the entire amount, which I had got at the time of retirement from my job,” added Ramesh, who served in the Textile Department.

Investigating officer ASI Jagdish Singh said, “A case has been registered after an inquiry. We are trying to trace the accused.” — TNS
