Bathinda, December 11

Residents of street number 29/5 of the Sukhpeer road area on Tuesday protested against the Finance Minister and local MLA Manpreet Singh Badal over the poor condition of the road.

They said despite repeated requests, the road had not been laid.

They gave an ultimatum that if the road was not laid within seven days then they would protest outside the office of Manpreet Badal in the city.

They alleged that lack of coordination among different government departments was a major cause behind the deplorable condition of the road.

It has been seen that auto-rickshaws often overturn and two-wheelers skid, causing injuries to people. Pedestrians also suffer because of the road’s condition.

City roads are in a bad shape not only in lesser developed areas or old city localities but also in posh residential localities.

The situation worsens at night in the trans-railway line area where cyclists and motorcyclists tend to lose their balance.

Rajiv Kumar, a city resident, said, “Roads are in a bad shape. I wonder why the government is not doing anything on this. The issue is related to the safety of the commuters, due to which the roads should be repaired at the earliest.”

Another resident Gurmeet Singh said the condition of some roads was so bad that accidents were a possibility, especially at night when visibility was low.
