Bathinda, May 25

Residents of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar on Saturday staged a protest against the installation of a mobile tower of Jio company in Street No. 31 of the Ajit Road area here.

The protesting residents said they would continue their protest and sit on a hunger strike here until work on the mobile tower was stopped.

As a result, long traffic jam was witnessed on Ajit Road and the movement of vehicles was greatly affected. After some time, the Civil Lines police station police reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters, but the residents remained adamant on their demand.

They said until officials of the district administration came here and gave them an assurance in writing that the tower would not be installed here, they would not end their protest.

The residents said the building owner on whose building the tower was being installed had taken approval by forging residents’ signatures.

Protesters Surinder Sharma and Rana Bhupinder Singh said the work of installing the mobile tower was going on. Earlier also, they had lodged a complaint with officials of the district administration urging them to stop the work of installing the tower here. At that time, the officials had got this work stopped, but now again this work has been started again.

Later, Municipal Corporation officials stopped the construction work, after which the residents called off their protest.
