Rare gall bladder removal surgery performed on poor woman

Reiterating its dedication towards providing better health facilities to the people of Punjab, doctors at the Civil Hospital here conducted a rare surgery removing two gall bladders from a 30-year-old poor woman patient.

Stating this here on Tuesday, Civil Surgeon Dr Hari Narain Singh said surgical specialist Dr Maninderpal Singh and his team successfully operated upon Amandeep Kaur. She was referred to the Civil Hospital from the Talwandi Sabo health center.

The patient had got two ultra sounds done, which pointed towards the patient having rare condition of having two gall bladders. He said one in 34,000 patients had this condition. Afraid of a heavy cost of surgery involved, the patient directly came to the Civil Hospital where she was using laparoscopic technique both of her gall bladders were removed.

The surgery was done on June 4. Of the two gall bladders seen during surgery, one had stones. Both the gall bladders were removed and have been sent for testing to a government lab. — TNS
