The district unit of the PWD Field and Workshop Workers Union protested outside the post office here today. The protest was headed by president of the unit, Sukhmander Singh Dhaliwal.

Speaking about their demands, they said the services of daily wage and contract workers should be regularised, promotions due from September 4, 2014, should be implemented, outstanding for 17 months should be paid, uniforms should be given to category IV employees and the arrears of the Sixth Pay Commission should be released. Protesters said they would gherao Cabinet Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra’s house on January 11 if their demands were not met. Gurdeep, Janak, Jarnail, Makhan, Harbans Chander, Kulwant and Dharam Raj adressed the gathering. — TNS
