The protest by Punjab Students’ Union members over PTA funds entered its fifth day at Government Rajindra College on Saturday.
The union members gathered in front of the principal’s office and raised slogans against the state government and college authorities.
The protesting students demanded that PTA funds for the BC and general category students must be waived.
Sangeeta Rani, president of the PSU, said, “We have been demanding that that the PTA funds for the BC and general category students must be waived, but to no avail. Now, we are left with no option but to intensify our struggle. We will continue our protest till our demands are met.”
The college authorities expressed their helplessness as guest faculty members in the college get salaries from the fund.
Satveer Singh, principal of Government Rajindra College, said, “We have to give salaries to the guest faculty members every month and funds collected from students will be utilised for it. If we waive the funds for students, it will be tough to manage affairs.”
“Moreover, each and every penny is charged as per the stipulated guidelines of higher authorities. We cannot do much in this. If students want, they must submit a written representation to the respective authorities,” he added.
