The Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) will allocate 30 new buses to Bathinda depot till August 31.
It will also start two routes of AC buses from August 23. Residents have been demanding these routes for a long time.
The PRTC will receive 250 new buses in two phases. Of these, 150 buses will be given to various depots in the state in the first phase.
The PRTC has spent Rs 24 lakh for each bus. In the second phase, 100 buses will be released. Of these, the Bathinda depot will receive 20 more buses.
It was observed by the state government that the PRTC buses were quite old.
According to sources, this step has been taken by the PRTC management to break the monopoly of private buses.
The PRTC will also launch some new routes to various stations in the state.
Manjeet Singh Narang, managing director of the PRTC, today visited the Bathinda depot.
Talking to Bathinda Tribune, he confirmed that 30 buses will be sent to the Bathinda depot in the first phase and 20 in the second.
Two AC buses will be launched from Bathinda to Amritsar daily from August 23.
One bus will leave for at Amritsar 5.15 am and the second at 11.15 am and they will come back daily, he added.
Narang said, “We will launch more AC buses in the next few months.”
Manjeet Singh Narang also held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra over the ongoing dispute between the PRTC and private bus operators.
In the meeting, it was decided that all mini-buses plying without permits will go off road but only when the PRTC would started new buses as their replacement.
